Tips For Packing Breakables When Moving

During the summer, more people move as the weather is warmer and college students pack up for the dorms with the help of movers in NH. Everyone has delicate items to bring, whether that’s a modern style mirror or grandma’s china figurines. How do you pack such delicate items?

You will want to:

  • Limit the total weight of the packed box. 50 pounds is ideal, as it will mean that your movers in NH, your relatives, friends or even you won’t blow their backs out when moving your stuff. Not only is heavy stuff heavy, but it is much more prone to being dropped or tipping over from the weight.
  • Get the right tools for the job. Newsprint is cheap and widely available (either buy a stack of papers at your local convenience store or have your neighbors save theirs for several weeks). Newsprint is one of the best tools you can use for protecting items. Another is tissue paper, available in sheets of 100 at your local dollar store. Bubble wrap is best tucked between layers of dishes and placed on the bottom of boxes. And finally, you will need boxes, a marker and tape. Wrap small items in newsprint. Place the tissue paper on the inside of cups and mugs, wrapping their handles in an extra layer to prevent chipping. Layer newsprint or bubble wrap in between layers of dishes and stuff newsprint into the gaps in the boxes. Seal them up and write “fragile” on the top and sides of the box. And use the right size box-stuffing an antique fruit bowl in a too small box is asking for it to be broken.
  • Pack heavy items on the bottom. It seems intuitive, but placing the heavy stuff at the bottom of your box makes a better carry for the movers in NH. Placing heavy stuff at the top also may break the smaller and lighter stuff at the bottom

When you move, you realize just how much stuff you have. Lots of times people cart this extra off to the local charity shops or sell it, but that also poses another problem of how to pack the items for bringing them over. Whether you move or just want to get rid of the mountains of garbage, by following these tips your stuff should arrive, safe, sound and whole.
